Weekly Spelling Schedule
Monday in class
Review the sort. Tear out page 3 and cut apart the word cards. Working independently or paired, sort the words several times. Notice the consonants that precede certain sounds.
Monday for homework
Take the words home and practice the sort with parents.
Tuesday in class
Blind sort. One student says a word aloud without showing it while his or her partner verbally indicates the category.
Tuesday for homework
Complete fill-in-the-blank.
Wednesday in class
Finding words in context, the students will look for the same inflected ending in familiar reading materials.
Wednesday for homework
Write new words in the appropriate empty boxes below each category on the week’s sort. Have students sort their words and glue their cards in place on the page.
Thursday in class
Students will turn in their sort.
Complete blind sort test.
Friday
Introduce the sort. Model how to change the words and define in context words that are unfamiliar.
Take the words home and practice the sort.
